It's the most beautiful time of year to live in Texas. The weather is great and our state flower is popping up everywhere, making driving along Texas highways a little more pleasant.
We are in the peak of bluebonnet season, from the end of March to the end of April. Although Texas botanists say this year's crop may not be a showstopper, there will still be plenty of bluebonnet photo opportunities.
There are lots of legends out there about our state flower, but one myth has certainly stood the test of time:
Is it really illegal to pick bluebonnets?
The answer to that question is NO. It is definitely not illegal to pick bluebonnets, although we encourage leaving the beautiful flower intact. Picking or stomping on the flower will prevent it from spreading seeds for next year's crop. But the only thing that could get you in real trouble for taking bluebonnet pictures is if you're on private property, or if you've stopped illegally along the highway.
One of the best places in Texas to take bluebonnet photos is in Ennis, just a short distance away from DFW. If a drive to Ennis isn't in your future, the Texas Department of Transportation's Web site will tell you where the most picturesque locations are in your area.
So grab the family and a camera and go enjoy some Texas bluebonnets!
