Cleburne Child Dies In Hot Car Accident

A Johnson County girl playing outside died after apparently getting into a hot sports utility vehicle, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, Monday evening. Investigators have not determined how long the 4-year-old girl was in the vehicle before she was discovered. As of right now, all signs point to yet another North Texas child injury accident.

The victim, Lilly Parsons, was found by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department shortly after they arrived in the 1200 block of Westlake Road near Cleburne. A ruling on her death is pending an autopsy for investigation.

"Everything right now points to an accident," said Lt. Tim Jones of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department. "But we are still investigating her death."

Her parents called 911 Monday evening, after they made a quick search around their property and couldn’t find their daughter after she had gone outside.

Authorities alerted officials with Child Protective Services because the family has two other children. A relative is staying with the family to monitor the children and parents. The family has no prior history with CPS.

As a father and a Fort Worth child injury lawyer, I always hate hearing stories about these kinds of accidents. I send my deepest condolences to the Parson’s family at this extremely difficult time. It is important for parents to always supervise children when they got outside to play, so future accidents like this don’t occur. In the summertime, when temperatures rise, cars can get unbearably scorching, so parents must warn children about the potential dangers of sitting in hot cars. As a North Texas juvenile accident lawyer, I am too often reminded that children need protection from accidents like this.
