As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I know that here in the DFW region we regularly see semi-truck wrecks since so many commercial truck routes pass through the area to serve not only local businesses, but also those spread throughout Texas and beyond. Since these vehicles are so huge, motorists and passengers in car and motorcycles often suffer extremely serious injuries if they are involved in such a collision.
An early morning truck accident caused significant delays for drivers in Mesquite this morning, after an 18 wheeler driver lost control of his truck and crashed it on the ramp from westbound Highway 80 to northbound I-635, forcing closures on both roads for several hours. Firefighters had to call in a special crane in order to rescue the driver, whose truck had overturned and caught fire. He has since been flown by helicopter ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas to be treated for unknown injuries.
Thankfully, police report that no other vehicles were involved in the collision. While it is known that the truck's load shifted, causing the 18 wheeler to overturn, the exact cause of the accident has not been determined. As an experienced Texas truck wreck attorney, I know that a leading cause of fatal tractor trailer crashes is driver fatigue, often as a result of commercial trucking companies relentlessly pressuring their drivers to cover increasingly greater distances in as little time as possible, which means that personal injury victims are often entitled to significant compensation.
I would like to extend my sympathies to the unidentified truck driver involved in this morning's accident, and to his family. I hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery.
