Is changing your voice mail the key to less distracted driving car accidents in DFW? According to an article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram today, it could be a possible solution to the problem. At the Texas Transportation Summit in Irving on Wednesday, Jennifer Smith, a nationally known speaker against distracted driving suggested that changing your voice mail to let people know you're driving could prevent the temptation to answer the phone.
Smith said that because people think you're ignoring them when you don't answer their call, letting them know you are either unavailable or driving will ease their emotions. She suggests using a greeting like this:
"Hi, this is (your name). I'm either unavailable or driving. If you leave a message, I'll call you back as soon as I can."
It makes since to us at the Anderson Law Firm. Our personal injury attorneys vehemently oppose texting or talking on a cell phone while driving and we support almost anything that prevents people from doing it. From Justin Bieber anti-texting apps, to bumper stickers to even starting our own Teens Against Distracted Driving campaign, we are all in when it comes to preventing distracted driving accidents. If something as simple as changing your voicemail will prevent a car wreck, let's do it.
