Driving and Texting Ban Considered in Texas

Today, the Texas House Committee on Transportation discussed a bill that would put a stop to texting and driving. The bill introduced by Rep. Tom Craddick, R-Midland, would place a statewide ban on texting and driving.

The hearing was especially emotional due to the presentation by Jeanne and Johnny Brown. The Brown's lost their young daughter, Alex, last year due to a car accident that was caused by texting and driving. Since then, they have started the Remember Alex Brown Foundation to educate people on the dangers of texting and driving.

To me, this bill and this cause is incredibly important. Last year, my personal injury law firm in Fort Worth took on a Teens Against Distracted Driving campaign and its mission is very similar to the Brown's.

We all know texting and driving is dangerous, but people are still doing it. If it takes a law to make even one person stop, then it's worth it.

I sincerely hope this law passes and that no family has to experience what the Browns have gone through. The dangers of distracted driving are serious. Even one text could ruin your life, or someone else's.
