Effect of a Release After Your Dallas Fort Worth Accident: IT'S FINAL!!

When you wrap up a personal injury claim after your Texas car accident or motorcycle wreck, you are provided a release to sign by the insurance company for the responsible party.  Whether you have a lawyer or are handling the claim yourself, the release is usually the same.  It basically says that for taking the settlement money, you are giving up your right to forever sue the person who is responsible for causing the injuries (and misery) in your life.

The effect of signing release is final.  You cannot take the money and then later on decide that you want more money and pursue the case further.  While this sounds very basic, I have people call me all the time that have already signed a release.  I even heard from a former client yesterday whose medical condition worsened after his motorcycle wreck.  We were able to recover a large sum of money for him based upon his very significant injuries, but the amount was recovered was probably not enough to fully compensate him.  The reason is we got the most amount of money possible through maxing out all available insurance policies.  However, when his condition worsened (after he signed the release) he called me to see if we could go after more money.  I certainly wish we could have, but there was no more money to go after.  If I thought there was more money to go after, I would have never let him sign the release in the first place.  The point is, everyone must understand that signing a release is final.
