It's been a bad week for school buses across Texas - and it's only Tuesday!
Yesterday we blogged about a Venus ISD school bus crash that injured 11 kids and just today there have been two more school bus accidents in Texas.
This morning six children were hurt in a school bus accident after a Fort Worth school district bus was involved in a crash with a car. The bus was headed to William James Middle School when the crash occurred. The bus was carrying 30 students at the time, but only six were taken to Cook Children's Medical Center with minor injuries.
Unfortunately, a school bus accident near San Antonio was much more serious. Tuesday afternoon the bus carrying 40 kids in Pleasanton was hit in the left rear by a sedan. The car then burst into flames, charring the back of the bus. One person had to be air lifted to the nearest hospital and there is no word yet on other injuries. I certainly hope everyone will be alright.
It's truly a terrible coincidence that there have been so many school bus accidents in Texas lately. But when these things happen, it's the perfect time to take a look at the safety of our children's school bus and our own driving habits around school buses.
The areas where school buses load and unload are often times the places where distracted driving is at its peak - in our neighborhoods and around places we cruise all the time. Don't be the cause of a school bus crash - put the phone, makeup and food down and just drive.
Hopefully this will be the end of a weird string of school bus crashes. Stay safe everybody - look out for the big yellow! And if your child has been injured in a school bus wreck, read this article on what your legal options are after a school bus crash.
