Fatal Accident Caused by Intoxicated Motorist in Denton

A woman is dead and two men are injured following a fatal head-on collision that occurred in Denton on Sunday night.

Hector Soto, 21, of Garland, was driving his pickup southbound on Sherman Drive when he moved across the center line in an attempt to pass another vehicle. In doing so, he collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda driven by Roger Bryant, 49, of Denton. Soto was ejected from his vehicle, which crashed into a fence and burst into flames.

The passenger in Bryant’s car, identified as Tessa Butler, 27, was killed instantly.

Both Bryant and Soto are currently hospitalized at the Medical Center of Plano. It is understood both sustained non-0life threatening injuries.

The wreck occurred just north of Long Road (about 0.4 miles north of Loop 288) a little before 11:00pm on Sunday night.

Soto now faces charges consisting of one count of intoxication manslaughter, and one charge of intoxication assault. Of course, in addition to being drunk at the wheel, he was also extremely reckless in trying to overtake another vehicle on a two-lane stretch of road where it was clearly unsafe to do so.

My condolences to the family of Ms. Butler. I hope that you – and Mr. Bryant – get the full justice and the fair compensation you deserve from Mr. Soto and his auto insurance company.
