Fatal Jet Ski Accident Kills One On Joe Pool Lake

Memorial Day marks the start of the summer season in North Texas and despite the rain that fell on Monday, plenty of people still managed to mark the occasion by taking advantage of the outdoor adventures on offer in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Unfortunately, I was saddened to learn of a tragic accident which resulted in the death of a man at Joe Pool Lake in southern Grand Prairie.

According to a report from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, two personal watercrafts collided at approximately 5:00pm on Monday afternoon. One of the operators involved in the crash was fatally wounded.

Wayne Story, 42, of Irving, was rushed to Methodist Mansfield hospital where he died in the ER.

Neither Story’s passenger or the two riders on the other watercraft sustained any injuries.

Police do not believe that alcohol was a factor in this tragedy, as so often is the case in so many deadly Memorial Day accidents. Throughout Texas, game wardens arrested 31 people for boating while intoxicated and another seven for driving while intoxicated over this three-day holiday weekend. However, an investigation into the cause of the accident in order to determine fault and liability is ongoing.

On behalf of everyone here at the Anderson Law Firm, our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Story. We are deeply sorry for your loss.

Statewide, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department report this this Memorial Day weekend was one of the deadliest on record. All told, there were seven drowning deaths and four boating-related fatalities in Texas parks this weekend, as well as countless other non-fatal accidents.
