A North Texas woman was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital early Thursday morning after getting attacked by five dogs, according to police.
The attack happened at about 3:15 a.m. on the 1700 block of Vaughn Blvd., just a couple of blocks away from Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth.
According to witnesses, the woman was walking down the street when five dogs, including two pit bulls, started to bite and attack her.
Witnesses told police that the dogs had come from a house around the corner, but when authorities went to the house to investigate, the man who lived there showed them his dogs were caged securely
Dog bite accidents, like this one, happen in Texas more than you think. Although there is no state-by-state study of dog bites, according to the Centers for Disease Control, 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year and I can tell you that in my line of work as a personal injury lawyer in Fort Worth, we regularly get calls from people who have been injured by dog bites.
What makes dog attacks so frightening and devastating is that you don't see them coming. Sometimes these dogs are pets you've been around for years and they just snap. Or, like in the case of the woman bitten in Fort Worth, the dog attack just happens like a freak accident.
The law in Texas is a little bit complicated when it comes to dog bites, but there are damages recoverable in Texas dog bite or dog attack cases. One thing that is for sure is that if you've been hurt by a dog in DFW, you should probably consider consulting with a Fort Worth dog bite attorney. With the law as confusing as it is, you will need someone in your corner to help you receive compensation that will help pay for your medical treatment and other injuries.
