As a Texas personal injury lawyer I am always saddened to learn of fatal auto accidents in which people have lost their lives. Such tragedies always seem so much worse when the deceased were youngsters with their whole lives ahead of them, as was the case in a deadly Decatur collision which occurred early Saturday morning.
Danny R. Nalley (17, of Fort Worth) was driving a car full of friends westbound when he collided with an eastbound pickup truck. Mr. Nalley is currently hospitalized in Fort Worth, where he is being treated for his critical injuries. Four passengers in the car were killed. The victims have been named as Kevin C. Brickley (19, of Blue Mound), Vincent J. LaGrassa (19, of Saginaw), John D. Rangel (16, of Highlands) and Vincent G. Williams (19, of Wakefield, MA).
The official police investigation is ongoing at this time. Early reports indicate that Nalley was driving a Ford Mustang. The other vehicle involved in the wreck was a Ford F-350 pickup truck being driven by Richard Rand (30, of Burleson). Mr. Rand was taken to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Early reports speculate that the Mustang was on the wrong side of the road, attempting to pass a slower vehicle. Both the Mustang and the pickup swerved off road in a failed attempt to avoid a wreck.
Already, there has been a great deal of comments posted online by people who don't yet have all the facts and who don't know the details. Now is not the time to point fingers. Regardless of the cause of this tragic crash, the fact is that four young people have lost their lives and another's hangs in the balance. There are many parents, siblings, relatives and friends who are still reeling from the shock and devastation of this incident. Please, respect their losses and show some sympathy. Let them mourn in peace and in dignity.
My heart goes out of all of those who are grieving. I know it's not much, but my thoughts are with you all.
