Inevitable Lawsuit Over Super Bowl Seating Debacle - My Take

Super Bowl XLV Lawsuit
We all knew it was coming - the lawsuit over the seating fiasco at Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas. It seems there are two groups of people who have been messed over by Jerry Jones' and the NFL's greed. Here are my thoughts on the whole deal:

The first group is the 400 poor souls who couldn't sit in the temporary seats for which they purchased a ticket and ended up watching the game on TV . It boggles my mind why those seats were not ready. If the New York contractor was behind schedule, fire them and get someone in that can finish the job. It's not like NFL organizers didn't  know when the Super Bowl was going to take place. Should these folks be limited to accepting the NFL's offer for future SB tickets? Nope. They had a ticket to a seat - which is just like a contract. The NFL didn't honor its end of the deal. So, yes, they have a right to sue. But how much compensation are they due? That is the tough part. Undoubtedly, they were out more money than just the ticket cost. Most were from out of town, probably. So there are flights, hotels, rental cars, parking....Plus the intangible costs of missing out on watching their favorite team. I hope these folks succeed in their suit - my bet is that they will.

The second group is the "Founders" of JerryWorld who put up $100,000 a seat to buy the best seats and were promised the" best sight lines" as well as tickets to any Super Bowl. These folks are used to sitting on the 50 yard line, but were instead thrown to the less than perfect temporary seating. Way to go, Jerry. These are your best customers and you treat them like that? You might be a crappy General Manager, but I thought you were a better P.R. man than that.

The suit for these people is probably solid on legal-contractual grounds. But the sympathy factor is missing here. The Founders at least got to see the game. But, yes, they are another group that has fallen victim to JJ's  and the NFL's enormous greed.

In listening to talk radio this morning, there a lot of people were calling those bringing the lawsuits greedy. Who knows, maybe they are. All I know is that the entire fiasco is rooted in greed. And by that I mean the greed of the NFL and Jerry Jones. Jerry suckered people into paying enormous sums to be members of the "Founders Club" so he could make more money. Then he  overstuffed Cowboys Stadium so he could try to have the largest Super Bowl crowd ever. Maybe that last part isn't greed, but ego. It seems those two traits often go hand in hand.
