Lanes on I-30 in Fort Worth Re-open After Fiery Car Crash

Was your drive to work a little easier this morning? If you live in Fort Worth or Dallas and take I-30 to work it might have been. The lanes damaged by an explosive car crash caused by a drunk driver opened Sunday night along I-30 in east Fort Worth.

We wrote about the Fort Worth car accident back in March, when Louis Nieves drove his pickup the wrong way on I-30 and slammed into a fully loaded fuel tanker driven by Alejandro Raya. Raya died in the accident and Nieves was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and intoxication manslaughter.

The site of the Fort Worth truck accident caused months stress for motorists, who had to deal with bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-30 every day. The immense heat from the explosion melted some of the bridge's support structure and forced the highway to be reduced to two lanes while workers repaired the bridge.

Luckily, repair crews finished the project a month ahead of schedule and the bridge on I-30 is fully operational today.
