One Step Closer to Texting Ban in Arlington

At last night's Arlington City Council meeting, a proposed ban on texting, playing games or reading emails on your phone while driving took one step closer to becoming law. The ban passed by a 4-3 vote in its first reading, but still has to go through one more vote before it becomes law.

If passed, Arlington would have the strictest distracted driving laws in the DFW area. At the Anderson Law Firm in Fort Worth, our Arlington car accident attorneys have a long history of supporting legislation that targets eliminating distracted drivers. People like our governor will argue that laws limiting our rights to talk or text while driving is a government overreach its bounds. But government already limits what we can do in our cars, so what's the big deal? These laws only affect you if you're texting and driving, what burden do they put on your life?

Arlington is a hot spot for so many activities, like Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys games and it's one of the largest suburbs in the country! With so many drivers coming and going in the city, its roads need to be as safe as possible. Hopefully the proposed ban will pass its second vote and other cities will soon follow in Arlington's footsteps.
