Another truck accident in Dallas slowed things down for commuters this morning. Yesterday, an 18-wheeler carrying a load of plastic pellets overturned and forced the northbound lanes of Interstate-35E to practically shut down. Today's semi-truck wreck didn't cause quite as much havoc for drivers and thankfully nobody was injured.
Around 1:15 a.m., a tractor-trailer carrying huge metal pipes overturned on the northbound connector of Interstate-45 leading to westbound Interstate-30. Authorities from the Dallas County Sheriff's Department said the heavy load shifted while going up the ramp causing the truck to overturn and spill the pipes all over the road. Luckily no other drivers were involved in the truck wreck and the spill was cleaned up before rush hour traffic really got going.
Trucks in Texas can carry thousands of pounds of materials and just a little shift in weight can throw the whole vehicle off balance. So many 18-wheeler accidents in DFW are caused by load shifts. Sometimes these weight shifts are completely out of the truck driver's control, but sometimes the driver could have prevented them by properly securing his shipment. Truck drivers have specific rules they must follow that apply to how their loads are secured. If you've been hurt in a truck accident in Texas, you should investigate whether or not that accident could have been prevented. Contact a Texas truck accident attorney if you want to know what really caused your truck wreck.
