Pickup Truck Hits City of Irving Work Crew

As if working the night shift wasn't bad enough, a City of Irving worker is in the hospital after he was hit by a man in a pickup truck. The accident happened around midnight on the 4900 block of O'Connor as the crew was picking up cones.

As the crew was picking up the cones, a man in a pickup truck going south on O'Connor hit the crew's trailer, which knocked the pickup on its side. One of the workers became trapped on the side of the trailer that was carrying the load of traffic signs when if toppled over due to the truck's impact. Both the worker and the pickup truck's driver were taken to the hospital. A blood sample from the driver of the pickup truck was taken to determine if he had been drinking before the accident.

It's hard to believe that you wouldn't notice a group of workers picking up large, bright orange cones. Especially when these guys are working at night they have tons of warning lights and cautionary signs to let drivers know where they are. Was the driver in the pickup truck possibly of probably drunk? Guess we'll have to wait on the blood test.
