Cars have airbags, now it seems motorcyclists can have them too. There are many fatal motorcycle accidents in Fort Worth and I advise wearing a safety jacket that motorcyclists can wear. This newer technology is a jacket that acts as an airbag when ejected from a motorcycle. The airbag for motorcycle riders comes in the form of a vest or jacket and the company said it is made of the same material used for car air bags. It has a CO2 cartridge and a rip cord. The vest or jacket fills with air when a motorcycle rider is ejected from his or her bike.
So far, motorcycle critics think the jacket is good. It has riders protected all in the chest and the back. It holds the spine in place while driving and the airbag jacket is very thin. Most motorcycle riders that have worn it say it isn’t cumbersome or a hassle. Riders that wear the jacket have full movement of arms and no issue with the wear of it at all.
However the only problem I would see with this jacket is in the percentage of accidents where one doesn’t separate from their bike, maybe if a car hits you from the side and you just fall straight over, maybe end up underneath your motorcycle. A biker is 37 times more likely to die in a crash than an occupant of an automobile, so I think it is very important to take every action of safety you can.
