Living and working as a personal injury lawyer in Fort Worth for the past 20 years, like most Texans; a lot of my life is spent in the car. Life in Texas seems to revolve around where you're going and how fast you can get there.
There's no better example of this right now than along the DFW Connector project near Grapevine where new construction is causing congested roads and tempting drivers who want to push the limit. Since May, Grapevine police have already written more than 700 tickets to drivers who fly through the 50 mile an hour speed limit.
We all know that speeding is a major contributor to car accidents in Dallas and Fort Worth, but what you may not realize is that if you get caught speeding you could pay the price not only for the ticket, but on your insurance as well.
A new report by Insurance.com found that one ticket can increase your rates by as much as 18%. A second ticket can increase rates by 34% and a third offense by much as 50%. When your insurance rates go up, they can remain in place for several years, too.
So what can you do? Number one: don't speed!
At the Anderson Law Firm in Fort Worth many of our clients were hurt in accidents caused by drivers going way over the speed limit. Maybe if more drivers knew how long their choice to speed would affect them they wouldn't do it. Or maybe they still would, I don't know.
In any case, speeding causes car wrecks, it can cause you to get a ticket and it can cause your insurance rates to go up. After reading all that, is it really worth it to put the pedal to the metal - just so you can get somewhere 5 minutes faster? Didn't think so.
