A teenage motorist is being blamed for a fatal truck accident in Texas that killed the driver of the commercial truck. The accident occurred last weekend on Interstate 20 near Midland in the early hours of the morning. The tractor-trailer operator was driving east, when his vehicle was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by 19-year-old Tyler Poor of Midland. The 18 wheeler flipped over, and the 39-year-old driver was declared dead at the scene. Poor meanwhile sustained shoulder injuries, and was taken to the hospital. He’s believed to be in a stable condition.
According to Midland police, Poor ignored a stop sign just before his Explorer rammed into the semi. Whenever the discussion is about truck accidents, most of the attention tends to be focused on the injuries and fatalities among non-truck occupants involved in the collision. In a majority of commercial truck accidents, it’s the occupants of the smaller vehicle who have a higher risk of being killed or seriously injured in the crash. In fact, estimates place the percentage of dead and injured non-truck occupants at approximately 80%. However, every year, hundreds of truck drivers are also killed in accidents caused not by their recklessness, but by the negligence of others.
