Three children have been seriously injured after a freak accident which resulted in the bounce house they were playing in to be swept 50 feet into the air by a gust of wind.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex in South Glens Falls, New York on Monday afternoon.
A 5-year-old boy fell 15-plus feet on to a parked car, broke both his arms, and suffered facial injuries.
A 6-year-old boy landed on the roadway and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
A 10-year-old girl escaped with relatively minor injuries, but it is reported that she lost consciousness as a result of her injuries.
The giant inflatable eventually crash landed in a nearby field.
Some news reports quoted the parent who set up the bounce house, who claimed to have secured the bounce house to the ground with stakes before it was included.
A thorough investigation is necessary to determine exactly who is to blame for this accident to occur. Although it was certainly a tragic freak accident, as a Texas child injury lawyer I know there must be negligence somewhere – with the bounce house manufacturer, owner, or installer.
Our thoughts are with the poor children injured in this horrific ordeal. I wish them a full and speedy recovery.
