Q
The driver who hit me produced an insurance card, but I just found out it was invalid. Now what?

A
Unfortunately, you wouldn't be the first driver to get duped by an invalid insurance card. Lots of drivers in Texas don't want to play by the rules, so they will buy auto insurance, pay the first month's premium then immediately cancel it. That way, they will have an insurance card to show at the time of the accident, but they aren't really covered. Even if the lapse in coverage wasn't intentional, the result is still the same and you are now left with the burden of being involved in a wreck with an uninsured motorist.

This is why having uninsured motorist coverage is so important. If this has happened to you, find out if you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage on your own insurance policy. If you do, you can contact your insurance agent and they will work with you to get your medical bills, property damage and lost wages paid for.
If you don't have UM coverage, or if your insurance company isn't working with you, then you will need to talk to a car accident attorney for advice, because you could be facing a challenge.
