Distracted driving in the Ft. Worth Dallas area is a huge problem and Texas is not very progressive in passing laws to prohibit this dangerous practice. There are only two primary Statewide laws in Texas which relate to Distracted Driving, both of which focus on cell phone usage while driving:
House Bill 339 prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using any wireless communication devices while driving (including hands-free cell phone devices) except in cases of an emergency.
House Bill 55 bans drivers from using hands-held devices in school crossing zones (but drivers still may use hands-free devices) and prohibits bus drivers transporting minors from using cell phones while driving. This law also makes it illegal for bus drivers to use hands-free devices while operating their vehicle.
