Diabetes Drug, Actos, Possibly Linked to Bladder Cancer?

Actos LawsuitIn June of 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning about one of the nation's best-selling diabetes drug, Actos. The FDA warns that patients who have taken Actos (pioglitazone) for more than a year have an increased risk to develop bladder cancer, based on research from a five year study of the drug by its manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

Actos became the most popular choice of drug for treating Type 2 diabetes after Avandia, a prescription similar to Actos, was found to sharply increase the risk of heart attacks in its users.
