Aledo is a small town situated to the South of I20 in Parker County, Texas. Home to just under 2,000 residents according to the 2000 census report, the city of Aledo has its own independent school district.
Aledo was formed from a group of loosely associated settlers in an area known as Medera along the Clear Fork Valley of the Trinity River. When the Texas & Pacific Railroad brought a line through the area spanning from Fort Worth to Weatherford the community became more defined. The town was named in 1882 following complaints from the US Post Office because of confusion between Parker County and Parker station and so asked the smaller community to find a more distinct name. Aledo was named for the home town of a local railroad official who was from Aledo, Illinois.
Despite its small size, Aledo has been home to several famous individuals. The Influential Evangelical speaker David Barton was born and raised in Aledo and the actor Bill Paxton lived in Aledo for a number of years before moving to Fort Worth.
