Asbestos/Mesothelioma Personal Injury Claims

Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly form of cancer caused mostly by inhaling large amounts of asbestos fibers. Asbestos is made up of minerals and is used to insulate buildings from heat and cold and when loose asbestos fibers are inhaled over a long period of time (usually the result of working around construction sites or mining) they can produce cancerous cells which infect the lining of your internal organs-mainly around the heart and lungs. The lining is filled with a fluid which allows these organs to slide around easily and that fluid is called the mesothelium membrane. When the mesothelium is infected by malignant cancer, it is known as mesothelioma.

It is commonly known that when one has cancer, the cancerous cells reproduce at a high rate of speed, and without proper medical intervention, those cells can metastasize, or spread to other parts of the body. Mesothelioma eventually moves from the organ lining to the vital organs and that's why it can be so deadly.

Symptoms of mesothelioma include chest pain and stiffness and shortness of breath. And, depending on which organs the cancer affects, weight loss, abdomen pain and swelling, anemia and fever are also symptoms commonly experienced as a result of the disease.

Like any cancer, mesothelioma can be treated with radiation and chemotherapy if it is caught early enough. However, since it attacks the lining of the organs instead of just one particular part of the body, it has the ability to spread to many vital organs much quicker than other types of cancer, which is what makes it so deadly.
