Recently in the news for the earthquake tremors, Cleburne is located in the DFW metroplex, just south of Fort Worth off Highway 67. Formerly known as Camp Henderson, Cleburne was named after former Confederate General Patrick Cleburne. Designated as a Civil War outpost, the city was incorporated in May 1871. Until 1898, Cleburne was also well known as the county seat for Johnson County. Agriculture was the prime source of income in the city until the 1890s, when machine shops took over commerce in the area with the opening of the Santa Fe Railroad, which connected Fort Worth to Cleburne to Temple.

Among its major attractions, the state of the art water park, Splash Station is a favorite during the hot Texas months. About 10 miles from the city center, you can find the Cleburne State Park, known for a myriad of pastimes like swimming, paddle boats, fishing and camping. Also topping the recreation list in Cleburne is The Layland Museum featuring historic Johnson County relics. Mainly made of stone, "The Rock" is one of the best known landmarks of the city. This sports stadium dates back to 1934 and plays host to sports like soccer and football.

Cleburne produced many well known personalities including country music singer Randy Rogers of the Randy Rogers Band, former Major League Baseball Ppcher Brett Marshall and Spiky Owen, the former Major League Baseball shortstop.
