Coppell, TX

Coppell is a city far northwest of Dallas and Denton. Coppell’s population is approximately 39,000 and growing, but still retains a small town atmosphere. With the outstanding city services, astonishing parks and facilities, safe neighborhoods, remarkable churches, superior schools it’s no wonder the quality of life and sense of community is so high. Coppell is bordered on the west by Grapevine, on the north by Lewisville, on the east by Carrolton, and on the south by Irving and Dallas.

Although Coppell is thought of as a relatively young city (incorporated in 1955), its roots can be traced back to the early 1880's. In 1832, the farming community of "Grapevine Springs" was organized in the vicinity of the present-day Grapevine Springs Park. Settlers began moving to the area in the 1840's. Most of north central Texas settlers were of German or French descent. By 1873, the community became known as "Gibbs," in honor of former Texas Senator and Lieutenant Governor Barnett Gibbs. The community changed its name again in 1890 - this time to "Coppell".

In 1893, Coppell had four stores, a lumber yard, blacksmith shop, cotton gin, and school. Almost two decades later, in 2010, Coppell has over 30 clubs and organizations, diverse types of restaurants, an outstanding school district, and amazing nature parks.
