Diagnosing Bladder Cancer

The pharmaceutical attorneys at the Anderson Law Firm are reviewing bladder cancers cases which may have been caused by the Type 2 diabetes drug, Actos. In summer of 2011, the FDA warned that people who have used Actos for more than a year may have an increased risk of bladder cancer.

Signs & Symptoms of Bladder Cancer

One of the most common clinical signs of bladder cancer is blood in the urine, although blood in the urine does not necessarily mean a diagnosis of bladder cancer. Some other signs can include irritation when urinating, a frequent, constant need to urinate and pain in the lower abdomen and back. When these symptoms are present, doctors will use a urinalysis or culture to determine if it is a urinary tract infection or something more serious that is bothering you.

Types of Tests Used to Determine Bladder Cancer

A variety of tests like ultrasounds, MRI scans, IVPs, and CT scans are used to detect bladder cancer and find irregularities in the bladder wall. A urologist will also look inside the bladder by using a cytoscope, a small, flexible tube with a video camera that is inserted into the urethra. The cytoscope will examine the bladder and remove any suspicious tissue.

Several other tests are also used to diagnose bladder cancer and patients should check with their doctor to see which tests are offered to them. Patients should always consult with their physician if they are concerned about bladder cancer. Although the side effects listed in this article are clinical signs used to determine bladder cancer, having any of these side effects does not mean you have bladder cancer.

If you or a loved one used Actos and now has bladder cancer, contact the Anderson Law Firm today. Actos may be linked to bladder cancer and you could be awarded compensation for your pain and suffering. Contact the Anderson Law Firm if you want to know more about your Actos rights.
