Forest Hill, TX

Forest Hill, Tx

Forest Hill began as a simple farming community in 1860 and has grown into a thriving city with a population of 13,000. Initially known as Brambleton Station and then Forest Hill Village, the town became a prominent stop along the Fort Worth Southern Traction Company's electric urban railway in 1911. The interurban streetcar line ran from Fort Worth to Cleburn and cars would pass through Forest Hill on an hourly basis.
In 1949, after the city reached a population of 500, it petitioned to change from being labeled a “village” to a “city.” The City of Forest Hill was born on April 8, 1949. By 1954, the Volunteer Fire Department, the Police Department and the Corporation Court had been created. The population continued to increase putting increased pressure on the inadequate existing water system. A bond election was held in 1955 and the City of Forest Hill was authorized by the people to sell bonds and purchase the water system from the Texas Water Company and install its own sewer system. A disposal plant was also built and transmission mains and lines were installed throughout the city so that all septic tanks could be phased out.
Forest Hill continued to grow throughout the 1960s and 1970s eventually becoming annexed so as to better govern itself as an independent community. Situated along the highly traveled I20 corridor between Fort Worth and Arlington, Forest Hill counts Chase Bank, Starbucks, Comfort Inn, Denny's and Horton's Tree Service as some of its major employers. The town is particularly proud of both their Police and Fire Departments which have each won several awards for the exemplary service they provide local residents.
