Head Injuries From Texas Accidents

Head injuries are typically very traumatic injuries that can result in serious long-term complications. Many things cause head injuries, and there are many different categories of head injuries. If you’ve had an accident that caused a head injury, you may need to consult a Board Certified Personal Injury Lawyer.

Two Main Categories Of Head Injuries
Head injuries come in two main categories: open head injuries and closed head injuries. A closed head injury is when you receive a blow to the head, but the object did not break the skull. An open head injury is when an object breaks the skull and enters the brain. Both of these categories of head injuries can be serious or life-threatening.

Types Of Head Injuries
Head injuries occur in many ways, and result in many different types of injuries. These injuries can range from mild to serious and life-threatening. Head injuries include:

Concussion
A concussion is the most common type of head injury, with over a million every year in the United States. Concussion is when the brain is shaken within the head. Concussion may result in memory loss, and can lead to bleeding in the brain, seizures and coma. A concussion may range from mild to severe.

Contusion
A contusion is just another word for a bruise, but you can get a brain contusion, or cerebral contusion, when you suffer from a head injury. A contusion may heal on its own, but can also lead to brain swelling, which can cause serious long-term consequences.

Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
A subarachnoid hemorrhage is when you have bleeding between the brain and the tissues that cover the brain. A subarachnoid hemorrhage can result in an aneurysm or seizures.

Subdural Hematoma
A subdural hematoma is similar to a subarachnoid hemorrhage; it’s a collection of blood on your brain’s surface. This collection of blood can compress your brain tissue, and result in permanent brain injury, and is one of the most potentially dangerous types of head injury.

Skull fracture
A skull fracture is a break in the bone surrounding your brain. A skull fracture can expose your brain to potential damage, and is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
