Frisco, TX

The wealth of rich soil brought early settlers to the western part of Collins County, Texas. This area, now known as Frisco, was brought to life by the invention of the railroad. In 1902, an extension of the Pacific Railroad Company brought tracks down to Texas from Denison to Carrolton, through the center of what is now Frisco.

Frisco was originally a piece of land owned by the Blackland Town Site Company, which was a subsidiary of the Frisco Railroad. When the company divided up the property, it attracted residents from other communities that had no access to rail ways. In 1904, the people selected the name “Frisco City” for their town in memory of the railroad that helped create the city. It was soon shortened to Frisco and served as a trade center for the surrounding farming community.

Known for their Green Living, Frisco inhabitants like to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and often encourage people to volunteer for events like “Clean it & Green It” and “Chunk Your Junk”. These events inspire all residents to be environmentally conscious and recycle all things that can be made into other things. Frisco also remains environmentally friendly and has been given the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The city also has a program called “green building” which is a collection of land-use, building design, and construction strategies that reduce the pollutants normally associated with building construction and operation. Benefits of the green building include reduced energy consumption, reduced water consumption, ecosystem protection, and better air quality.

Family life and sports are the mainstays of life in Frisco, and the town boasts three professional sports teams. The city has an average of 234 days of sunshine a year, and an average temperature of 66 degrees - perfect weather for all the sports enthusiasts. The Dr. Pepper Ballpark is the home of the minor league baseball team, the Frisco Roughriders. In 2003, baseballparks.com named Dr Pepper Ballpark the best new ballpark in baseball. And In 2009, Baseball America named Dr Pepper Ballpark as the fifth-best ballpark in Minor League Baseball and second among Double-A clubs.
