Information to Collect at the Crash Scene

Although most of this information will be included on the investigating officer’s crash report, it is also a good idea to collect as much of the following information as you can yourself if you are still at the site of the wreck:

  • Date and time
  • Location
  • Weather and road conditions
  • Investigating officer’s name
  • Police report number
  • Citations given
  • Your car occupants
  • Description of accident
  • Names of all other drivers involved in collision
  • Other driver’s license number
  • Other driver’s insurance details (insurance company, policy number, insurance phone number)
  • Their address
  • Their phone number
  • Make and model of all other vehicles
  • License plate of all other vehicles
  • Vehicle ID number (VIN)
  • Occupants in other vehicles
  • Damage to both vehicles
  • Any injuries
  • Witness names and contact information
  • Draw a simple diagram which shows how the accident happened

Obviously, if you have been injured in the wreck, it is advisable to seek medical care for your injuries as soon as possible following the collision. Click here to see out post-accident checklist for Dallas-Fort Worth car accident victims.
