Dog Attacks and Liability Insurance

Almost all dog attack or dog bite claims are made directly against the dog owner, who will be an individual (as opposed to a company or business). Just about every homeowner in Texas has homeowner's insurance to cover them in case they are negligent. This type of insurance is required by mortgage lenders. The liability portion of these insurance policies (used to pay for negligence claims) usually comes in amounts of $100,000.00, $300,000.00, or oftentimes even higher.

So when the Anderson Law Firm is first contacted about a potential dog attack claim, we first make sure that the dog owner is a homeowner. If so, we can usually be confident that there is available homeowner's insurance to make a claim against. Even if the dog's owner is not a homeowner, there are other things we look at to see if there is any available insurance. Possibly renter's insurance or other types of insurance will provide coverage for an injury claim.

When making a dog attack claim against the dog owner's insurance company, the actual attack does not have to happen on the dog owner's residential premises. As long as there is insurance in place at the time of the dog attack, then the homeowner's insurance policy will provide coverage.

In summary, if you or a loved one is injured by an aggressive, mean or vicious dog, then there is a good chance there will be liability insurance available to pay for your damages.
