What happens if the police did not prepare a crash report for my automobile accident?

Whenever pursuing a personal injury or wrongful death claim following a traffic collision in Dallas, Fort Worth or Arlington, an injury lawyer can use the police report as valuable evidence in determining the liable party at fault. Generally, if somebody leaves the car accident scene in an ambulance or if one of the cars involved cars has been totaled or is not drivable, then the investigating police officer will certainly be required to prepare a crash report. (That is the technical term, but it is also called a police report or accident report). However, many times police are called to the scene but do not fill out a crash report after an automobile wreck. There are many legitimate reasons why they might not do so, but sometimes the investigating officer fails to prepare a report when they really should have.

Fortunately, just because a report is not filled out does not mean you cannot pursue a personal injury case. The Anderson Law Firm has represented many individuals who have been injured in a motor vehicle collision where there was no report completed. In the absence of a crash report, the parties should fill out what is called a Blue Form. This documents the wreck and is used to give your side of the story.

Additionally, if the investigating police department does not prepare an accident report, it is important that the parties involved in the wreck exchange insurance information. All you need to do is make sure you get the name, driver's license, insurance company and insurance policy number from the other driver.
