Propecia and Prostate Cancer

Propecia and prostate cancerIn June of 2011, the Food and Drug Administration announced a change to the "Warnings and Precautions" section of 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (5-ARI) class of drugs. In the warning, the FDA stated that there would be a label change on the warning section of these drugs to include new information about the increased risk to develop high-grade prostate cancer after using drugs in the 5-ARI class. These drugs are marketed under the names Proscar, Propecia, Avodart, and Jalyn.

The FDAs warning suggests that drugs containing finasteride, like Propecia, may boost the chances of developing high-grade prostate cancer.

Propecia Side Effects

This isn't the first time the drug Propecia has come under fire for causing harmful side effects in users. During the last several years, men throughout the country have reported and even filed lawsuits against the maker of Propecia for permanent Propecia sexual side effects and erectile dysfunction (ED). Some of these side effects include:
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Decreased arousal and libido
  • Pain in the testicles
  • Problems with ejaculation
  • Gynecomastia - enlargement of male breast tissue

Some of these Propecia side effects can be temporary but some can become permanent - even after discontinued use of Propecia.

What You Should Do If You Have Serious of Permanent Propecia Side Effects

If you have taken the hair loss drug Propecia and have developed prostate cancer or other serious side effects, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries. The makers of prescription drugs have the obligation to properly research and warn consumers about the harmful side effects associated with taking their medications.
