Actos Patients at High Risk of Developing Bladder Cancer

The FDA has issued a warning to the public that using Takeda Pharmaceuticals' Pioglitazone drug Actos may increase the patient's risk of developing bladder cancer. The caution comes after an ongoing epidemiological study on Actos found that those individuals who had taken Actos for more than a year were at a higher risk of developing a bladder tumor.

Lawsuits have already been filed against Takeda Pharmaceuticals by consumers who claim that the company failed to properly research and warn of the dangers associated with their drug which is intended to treat Type 2 Diabetes. If Takeda Pharmaceuticals is found to have purposefully withheld information which may have caused individuals to not use their drug, those patients who bring lawsuits against the company may be entitled to compensation.

Currently, the FDA has mandated new language by added to Actos' patient Medication Guide warning of the alleged link between Actos and bladder cancer. In France, Pioglitazone has already banned based on the study's finding and German has asked doctors to stop prescribing the drug while further analysis of the research is conducted.

If you have taken Actos, you should be vigilant for any symptoms commonly experienced by bladder cancer sufferers. Blood in the urine is characteristic of a bladder tumor and other symptoms include acute pain in the abdomen and the lower back area, as well as a painful stinging sensation while urinating. As with any form of cancer, those with a family history of the disease should be particularly vigilant. If you are concerned about any of the symptoms you are experiencing, you should seek professional medical advice.
