After you've been in an accident with a semi, one of the first places our Texas truck wreck attorney’s look for evidence of negligence is the crash report written by the responding officer. This report contains all kinds of useful information like the name of the truck driver, insurance information and sometimes even the responding officer’s assessment of who was at fault.
- The investigating officer will fill out a Form CR-3, which is the standard Texas Peace Officer’s Accident Report. As of January 1, 2010, the CR-3C (Commercial Motor Vehicle Supplement) was combined with the CR-3 so all information is now included on one report: Form CR-3.
- There may be some investigating agencies in Texas that are not using the CR-3. Those agencies will use the CR-3 Alternate instead.
I give all truck accident victims the same advice: make sure your voice is heard by the police officer who comes to the scene of the wreck. Tell the officer your side of the story. Too often, 18-wheeler accident victims are either too frazzled or too hurt to give a detailed account of the wreck. Unfortunately, this can greatly hurt your case.
