What Kind of Police or Crash Report Is Prepared After a Tractor-Trailer Wreck?
At the Anderson Law Firm, one of the first places our Texas truck wreck attorney’s look for evidence of negligence in an 18-wheeler accident case is in the crash report written by the responding officer. This report contains all kinds of useful information like the name of the truck driver, insurance information and sometimes even the responding officer’s assessment of who is at fault for causing the accident.
The investigating officer will fill out a Form CR-3, which is the standard Texas Peace Officer’s Accident Report. As of January 1, 2010, the CR-3C (Commercial Motor Vehicle Supplement) was combined with the CR-3 so all information is now included on one report—Form CR-3.
There may be some investigating agencies in Texas that are not using the CR-3. Those agencies will use the CR-3 Alternate instead.
One thing accident victims need to do after their Texas truck wreck is to make sure their voice is heard by the responding police officer. Tell them your side of the story and make sure they hear you. Too often 18-wheeler accident victims aren’t able to give their full, detailed account of what happened to cause their wreck simply due to their injuries. If you aren’t taken by ambulance after your semi-truck accident, stick around and tell the office your account of what happened. This is vital to your claim.
