The Insurance Company Doesn't Trust You - You Shouldn't Trust It

It's common knowledge that in criminal trials you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately, insurance companies seem to operate under the assumption that you are making a fraudulent claim until you prove otherwise. Insurance companies look at each case from every possible angle to try and figure out a way to make you look like you're committing some sort of insurance fraud. They do this because they are looking for any reason not to have to pay you.

Insurance companies also work under the assumption that you are not hurt. If you are claiming that you're hurt and your injury affects your ability to work and carry on in your daily life, then you must assume that you are being watched. Larger insurance companies have teams of private investigators who are instructed to watch and videotape people who are making a claim. They don't watch every single person who's making a claim, as the cost to do that would be extraordinary. However, if your injuries are serious enough that you're asserting you won't be able to work in the future, then you have to assume that a camera is rolling at all times.

Another tactic used by insurance companies is to try and show that you're not really as hurt as you say you are by attacking everything you say. For example, just about every person in the world starts to experience some degenerative changes in their spine during their 30's. This is a fancy medical phrase which describes how your spine starts to show the wear and tear of everyday life. These changes show up on diagnostic tests like MRIs. The insurance company always uses these real life changes in your spine to argue that you had a bad back or neck before your accident and that the accident was not the sole cause of your injury. The insurance company adjusters and lawyers will ignore the practical fact that you felt no pain before the accident and now after it, you are in constant pain. Their position often forces the injured person to hire costly medical expert testimony to prove extensive injuries were indeed caused by the accident.
