Statistics about Semi-Truck Accidents

Any kind of motor vehicle accident can be a life-changing event. Whether your injuries are minor or severe, you never look at the road or driving quite the same after a motor vehicle accident. However, truck accidents are in a category of misfortune entirely unto themselves. Because 18-wheeler accidents involve massive vehicles weighing several tons, these accidents are typically much more severe than your average auto accident.

NHTSA Reveals True Danger Of Semi-Truck Wrecks
Because tractor-trailer accidents can be so potentially dangerous, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration authorized a study to look at the various data surrounding truck accidents. The NHTSA studied 120,000 accidents to analyze truck-related trends and data. The trends showed that 50% of truck-related accidents are two-vehicle crashes, and of those, 88% involve a semi-truck colliding with a non-semi.

In wrecks involving tractor-trailers, 44% of people injured in a tractor trailer accident suffer incapacitating injuries. Tragically, approximately 9% die. This means that 53% of people driving other vehicles in truck-related accidents suffer an incapacitating injury or death as a result of a truck accident. This is an absolutely staggering number, and is exponentially higher than all other types of motor vehicle injury statistics.

You Need An Advocate Who Knows The Law
The federal government is extremely strict about semi truck driving laws. Because large trucks are so potentially dangerous, federal laws govern the amount of time that a driver may be on the road, how long a trucker can drive without resting, and many other important factors.

When you suffer an injury from a truck accident, you need someone to help you who knows the various federal and state laws governing truck accidents. These types of cases typically involve investigations and a thorough study of the facts to effectively pursue a case. Make sure to find a personal injury lawyer who is qualified to effectively analyze your case, discover all the facts, and help you get the recovery you deserve.
