Dallas has officially been crowned the dubious honor of the most congested city in Texas according to the Texas Department of Transportation's list of the 100 Most Congested Roadway Segments in Texas. The top three places are all Dallas County highways: SS 366 from I-35E to US 75, I-635 in the same area, and US 75 from I-635 to Woodall Rogers Freeway. TxDOT estimates that on the worst stretch of SS 266 alone commuters waste 597,043 hours a year in traffic delays, costing an approximate $23.55 million.
Actually, Dallas-Fort Worth is clearly the most congested region in the state as a whole, as 35 of the top 100 roads are located either in Dallas or Tarrant County (I-35W from I-30 to SH 183 is ranked at number five). Collin and Denton counties also have multiple entries on the list.
It's really no wonder that there are so many fatal auto accidents on our roads.
