Nationwide grocery chain Walmart has removed Enfamil Newborn Formula from its shelves after the formula was linked to the death of a newborn in Missouri. The affected batch has the lot number ZP1K7G. The 10 day old child, Avery Cornett, of Lebanon, MO, died from what is believed to have been a rare bacterial infection. Although the manufacturer of Enfamil, Mead Johnson Nutrition, claim that the batch tested negative for the bacterium Cronobacter before it was shipped to stores, Wal-Mart has pulled the product “out of an abundance of caution.”
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently performing tests on the affected batch of formula, although it has not yet been confirmed as the actual cause of infection and death.
