New Crib Safety Standards Go Into Effect Tuesday

Posted on Jun 27, 2011

New safety standards approved by the US Consumer Safety Commission will be enforced for anyone that manufacturers or sells baby cribs in the US starting tomorrow, June 28, 2011. According to the new standards, the manufacture and sale of traditional drop-sided cribs are prohibited. The commission said that traditional drop-side cribs are dangerous and have led to thousands of child injuries and from January 2000 to 2010 at least 32 deaths were related to drop-side detachments in cribs.

The Fort Worth personal injury lawyers at the Anderson Law Firm fully support the new crib safety standards. Mandatory crib standards haven't been updated in almost 30 years and during that time, 86 dangerous cribs have been recalled by the CPSC. So many innocent children have been injured by dangerous cribs, but hopefully with the new safety standards, these injuries will cease to exist.

For daycares and hotels, the deadline to buy the new, safer cribs is December 28, 2012. If you have a child in a daycare facility in Fort Worth or Dallas that uses a crib, make sure your daycare provider is aware of the new safety standards and see that they provide cribs up to the new safety standards by the December deadline. Being proactive on your part will help ensure that your child is safe from daycare injuries.
