The grace period ended today for red light runners in Frisco. At 12:01 a.m. motorists who run red lights on north- and southbound Preston Road at Lebanon Road and on southbound Preston Road at Gaylord Parkway will receive a $75 ticket.
Red light cameras have been in Frisco before. In 2006 the cameras were installed at the most dangerous intersections, but the program stopped in May of 2009 because citations and collisions had declined. When the program started in 2005, the cameras recorded about 800 red light violations a month, compared to when the cameras were turned off in 2009; they recorded about 43 violations a month.
Since then, the city tweaked the system and reinstalled the program in February. But until today, Frisco police haven't been issuing any real tickets.
If you're worried about getting a ticket for going through a yellow, don't be. Frisco police will still review every ticket issued to make sure drivers were actually in violation and that the picture was not taken in error.
