Over 2,000 Texas Trucks and Buses Deemed Unsafe

Posted on Jun 21, 2011

Some of the worst accidents I've seen as a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer were caused by 18-wheeler trucks. Due to their size and weight, it takes them longer to stop than other vehicles and they have a hard time avoiding hazards which could result in a collision. In order to try and reduce the safety risks common to commercial trucks, each year Texas police offers participate in Roadcheck: a marathon 72 hour event held each June. According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), approximately 14 trucks are inspected every minute of Roadcheck to ensure the big rigs are up to code.

The Department of Public Safety announced today that in Texas Roadcheck 2011 more than a quarter of the tractor trailer inspected were ordered off the road for violations. Police officers across the state stopped a total of 7,993 vehicles including both commercial trucks and passenger buses. Of those, 26.5 percent were taken out of service for safety issues such as brake and tire problems. On behalf of all Texas, I would like to thank the organization which made Roadcheck 2011 a success and making us all a little bit safer while driving.

If you have been injured in an auto accident involving a commercial truck it is important that you consult with a board certified personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
