Texting & Driving – Even More Reasons to Stop

Posted on Oct 27, 2011

As if we needed any more reasons not to text and drive, a new study commissioned by the Texas Transportation Institute says that texting and driving is even more dangerous than previously thought. As a personal injury attorney in Fort Worth, so many of my clients have been seriously hurt by drivers who were texting, so it's no shock to me just how dangerous texting and driving can be. According to the study, texting drivers react at least twice as slowly as alert drivers no matter if they are texting or just reading a text. Not only did study participants overall have trouble staying in lanes and maintaining speed, but they also were more than 11 times likely to miss visual cues.

With all the new studies pointing out the sheer danger in texting and driving, it's still hard for me to understand why Governor Rick Perry didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Just a few months ago, Governor Perry vetoed a bipartisan law that would have made it illegal to text and drive in Texas because he thought it was an over-reach of government.

With or without laws, by now everyone is aware that texting and driving is not a good idea. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents in Fort Worth and the rest of the Metroplex.  Don't increase your chances of getting hurt in a wreck, or hurting someone else by texting and driving. It's just not a good idea.
