Voter Approval Not Necessary for Texas Red Light Cameras

A bill that would require Texas cities to get permission from voters to put of red light cameras on city intersection has officially lost its steam. State Rep. Rob Orr, R-Burleson backed the bill but said he will no longer pursue it due to lack of interest and time in the legislative session.

Red light cameras cause controversy wherever they are - many people feel they prevent car accidents, others think they are simply a way for the city to make money.

Last year, red-light cameras were shut off at 50 Houston intersections after residents voted to cancel the city's program.

It seems that for now, your city can put a red light camera up anywhere without your approval.
