A suspected drunk pilot was kept off a flight in Omaha, Nebraska this morning after he failed a blood-alcohol test, the Federal Aviation Administration says. A hotel shuttle bus employee tipped off authorities who called airport police, according to CNN.
The male pilot was scheduled to fly Frontier Flight 1894 from Omaha to Milwaukee at 6 a.m. Under FAA rules, pilots are forbidden to fly within eight hours of drinking alcohol. The FAA said they are investigating the incident, but are not at privy to comment at this time.
As a personal injury lawyer, it always amazes and shocks me when I hear stories about the people we trust and pay to transport us from place to place, whether by air, land or sea, being drunk on the job. In Texas, I’ve heard and represented clients who were seriously injured because a drunk bus driver crashed their bus.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a car, a boat or even an air plane – it should not be operated while intoxicated. I couldn’t even imagine flying a plane drunk or hung-over; it’s honestly bewildering that anyone would try.
