An accident occurred on New Year's Day that resulted in one person dead. The accident took place on Highway 287 near Interstate Highway 20 in Arlington. Police state the wreck happened when two vehicles collided while trying to exit the ramp from 287 to I-20. One driver, Elizabeth Stratton, swerved out of her lane and into another vehicle, who was being driven by Timothy Shorter. Investigators note Stratton pushed the second vehicle into a concrete pillar. Timothy Shorter passed away.

Stratton was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. She was taken to the hospital, then to jail.

At my firm, I’ve seen countless victims of drunk driving accidents suffer very serious injuries, but it never gets any easier, especially since drunk driving accidents are one hundred percent avoidable. I know this must be a difficult time for the victim and their family, and I wish them a speedy recovery.
