According to police, a man saved his girlfriend’s life late Wednesday night after pushing her out of the way of a speeding vehicle. His girlfriend was well out of harm’s way; the man, however, was hit. The speeding driver fled the scene of the accident, which occurred in Dallas on Park Lane (close to the Central Expressway).

The man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries, which are noted to be serious. The accident occurred while the man and his girlfriend were trying to cross the street close to a 7-Eleven store late that evening.

Factors That Could Have Contributed to the Accident

There are quite a number of factors that could have caused the accident to begin. While it is not clear as to what exactly caused the accident because the driver fled the scene, we can at least consider things that could have played a role in the accident, such as:

  • Alcohol use: was the speeding driver intoxicated when the accident occurred? Drinking and driving is highly irresponsible and can be extremely dangerous for several reasons, such as losing one’s ability to properly function and having a negatively altered cognitive and mental state.
  • Drug use: was the driver taking drugs before the accident occurred? Drugs can highly impair a driver’s cognitive abilities like alcohol, and can even make them lose complete control. Also, the decisions of a drug taker can be negatively altered. For example, instead of checking on the person they hit, a drug-consuming driver could flee the scene because of their negatively altered state of mind.
  • Distracted driving: things such as texting and driving or reaching down to pick up something can cause a driver to temporarily lose their complete focus from the road. What’s even more dangerous is that it does not take a lot of time for a distraction to cause an accident; simply taking one’s eye off the road can be sufficient to miss seeing people crossing a road.

Other reasons could have contributed to the accident. It would be up to the police, investigators, detectives, prosecutors, and/or accident experts to determine exactly what caused the accident to occur.

Do You Have Any Last-Second Responses?

If a driver is coming to your way in high speeds, are you prepared to act in a way that can save your life and the lives of others? Although the man in the accident got injured, he did so while saving the life of a loved one. As for the driver that caused the accident, their reckless behavior could have caused the death of both the man and his girlfriend.

Knowing what to do in the last second before an incident occurs is essential in determining whether or not someone gets injured, and the severity of the injury should they get involved in an accident. If you saw a vehicle speeding your way and you have very little time to react, what would you do? What are your last-second responses that can save your life and the lives of others?
