Typically when someone thinks of a traffic accident they think of a vehicular accident, such as the involvement of a car or truck. A Terrible Accident

According to officials with the city of Fort Worth, Michael Valdez, a 14-year veteran Police Officer with the Fort Worth Police Department, along with his wife Mary Ann Valdez, died after being in a motorcycle crash at around 2:15 in the morning. The exact cause of the accident has not been disclosed at this time.

The accident occurred close to the Fort Worth Cultural District, and the couple was transported to nearby Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. Michael Valdez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and his wife Mary Ann Valdez died shortly after arriving to the hospital. The couple had four children aged between 15 and 23. According to reports, the couple will be transported to San Antonio for a joint funeral service.

Avoid Driving During the Night

Due to the fact that a motorcycle is smaller than vehicles and that the tail lights and headlights can have a smaller distant of light, it is suggested for motorcyclists to take safety precautions when driving during the night. For example, due to a decrease in visibility because of a decrease in light, a motorcycle that is on the blind side of a vehicle can become impacted when the vehicle is changing lanes. However, if choosing to ride in the night, make sure to wear a helmet and be seen by others.

Drive Safely

As with any other vehicle, it is important for motorcyclists to maintain safety measures when riding a motorcycle, which includes:

  • Changing lanes properly
  • Being aware of other drivers
  • Braking ahead of time
